Matthew Turley PHOTOGRAPHY, CLASS OF 2004 www.matthewturley.com

You’ve never seen scenes quite like these: remote, pristine, spectacular. They come in part from Matthew Turley’s natural acumen for photography—and in big part from his yen for adventure. A BYU graduate of 2004, Matthew began his career traveling the world with and assisting acclaimed photographer Andy Anderson. Since then he’s produced award-winning work for K2 Sports, Men’s Journal, Travel & Leisure Golf, and many other clients. Matthew now resides in New York City, searching for outdoor adventures amongst the skyscrapers.

Brandon J. Gunn 3-D STUDIO, CLASS OF 2003

If nothing is permanent until ink meets paper, Brandon Gunn is certainly making an indelible impression on the artistic world. A BFA graduate in printmaking, Brandon mastered the concept of lithography and went on to pursue these skills at Illinois State University and the Tamarind Institute in Albuquerque. He now works with world-renowned artists and institutions including the Smithsonian to create fine art lithographic editions for public and private collections.

Shane Lewis ANIMATION, CLASS OF 2001 stlewis.blogspot.com

Meet an artist who not only lives in the Wonderful World of Disney, he helps create it. A graduate of the BYU animation program, Shane Lewis spent years in the Department of Visual Arts developing his illustration and composition skills before making the leap into film and digital animation. Now employed by Disney Interactive Studios, Shane creates video games based on animated motion pictures such as Chicken Little, Meet the Robinsons, and Bolt.

Michael Whiting 3-D STUDIO, CLASS OF 2000

Kids are known to spend hours playing video games. But few and far between are the kids who can transform video games into a career—let alone a fine art. Such is the story of Michael Whiting, an alumnus of the BYU Fine Arts Department. By finding minimalist inspiration in the pixel-based images of video games, Michael has turned Pac-man style into artistic portrayals. You’ll find his dimensional steel canvases in homes, businesses (and perhaps someday, arcades) worldwide.

Enoch Palmer GRAPHIC DESIGN, CLASS OF 1998

The field of graphic design is known for making waves. Enoch Palmer is known for riding them. A graduate of BYU’s graphic design program, Enoch designed and launched the largest independent surf magazine in Hawaii. His career tide moved him to New York City, where he’s created work for Nordstrom, Sephora, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Time Warner’s magazine Real Simple. His role as VP of design at Aveda helped the company garner the prestigious National Design Award for Corporate Achievement by the Smithsonian Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum.

Brett Helquist ILLUSTRATION, CLASS OF 1993

Young and parental readers unfortunate enough to be familiar with the dour tales of Lemony Snicket will recognize the doleful illustrations of Brett Helquist. A graduate of BYU’s illustration program, Mr. Helquist fatefully followed his dreams to New York City, where his sleepless work earned him a contract with HarperCollins. The books to which he’s contributed have sold by the millions; some became a major movie. Unfortunate wretch. Imagine the taxes.
